It’s hip to be local

'I love locals' t-shirtHere it is proof that “going local” is fashionable. I spotted this “I love locals” T-shirt being worn by someone on the streets of a hip part of Buenos Aires last week.

I instantly wondered where it came from and, through the wonders of the internet, I tracked it down by typing simply “I love locals tshirt buenos aires” into a search engine. Soon I was in touch with fashion blogger Carolaine, who had modeled the shirt on her website, Chez Carolaine. She told me she bought it some time ago from the shop of Argentine designer, Paula Cahen D’Anvers and, when I asked her why she liked the T-shirt’s message, she said:

“I am Brazilian, but I lived in Buenos Aires for nine years. It’s a long time, but, in reality, I am not Argentinian, and the thing I like the most about not being Argentinian is that I can really appreciate the good things about the country and value the local culture more than a regular resident. And so, in brief, ‘I love locals’.”

A further scout around the net led to these variant T-shirts, all following the local theme, and available in the UK and US.
