How to travel like a local? Start by sleeping like one

Wake up where every local does: in a home. At onefinestay we believe that’s exactly where your day should begin. You should be inspired by the place you’re staying in, live your day just as someone who lives there does.

For us, living like a local means that there is not one rule for locals and another for tourists. Instead, our guests go where locals go, shop where they shop and eat where they eat. For instance, we ask each onefinestay host for their recommendations of places to eat and drink so visitors can participate in the local culture in just same way as their hosts.

We are based in London, but we believe we are part of a wider global phenomenon. Look at the popularity of couch surfing, which now has over 1 million members worldwide, or the increase in home exchanges. When we ask people who travel regularly, they increasingly tell us they are bored of staying in hotels that look and feel the same everywhere in the world. Making away feel like home is an integral part of what local travel means.

When you stay in a local’s home, you unlock the secrets of the place they live and you discover their life. For any traveller, home is the most inspiring place to begin the journey of seeing the world through someone else’s eyes.

About us: At onefinestay guests can live like a local by staying in a London home for a few days while its owner is out of town. Our distinctive homes range from luxury apartments in Mayfair, Holland Park and Islington, to a houseboat on the Thames and a converted Gothic church. We’re pioneering a new category of short-stay accommodation for visitors who seek more unique local experiences than hotels can offer. We call it the unhotel.

  2. Great site and niche! I have always been fascinated by home exchanges, and onefinestay made it as easy as a hotel stay! I am looking forward to your expanding worldwide.

  3. Awesome idea – really slickly executed website as well, love the design aesthetic (but obviously haven’t stayed with them yet, being a Londoner … but will mention this to any visiting guests)!
