Can a tourist highlight be a local experience?

Eiffel tower (by idreamofdaylight)

On our Spotted by Locals blogs, locals in 38 Europe cities write about their personal favorite spots. Usually, these are very much “insider” tips that you won’t find in the regular guidebooks.

Sometimes (very rarely), a local (“Spotter” as we call them) has a very special story about a “highlight” in their city and writes about that. Readers sometimes have questions about this.

On our Facebook page, we asked our visitors “Should we ask our Spotters to stop writing about tourist highlights?”.

The visitors that replied think not. Some quotes:

Miltiadis Sarakinos: “…famous tourist spots should not be excluded because they always hide some info under the skin.”

Anny Benetou: “As a reader of the spotters I would like to see how a local experiences a touristic highlight. Maybe he/she knows a place nearby where you can sit and enjoy a view, but I agree that he/she should write about it if he loves it.”

What do you think? Can a tourist highlight be “local travel” ?
